The Battle Creek Fire Department is visiting Neighborhood Planning Councils and is offering station tours and community conversations to collect public input on the future of the seven fire stations.
They are: Station 1, 195 E. Michigan Ave.; Station 2, 145 N. Washington Ave.; Station 3, 222 Cliff St.; Station 4, 8 S. 20th St.; Station 5, 1170 W. Michigan Ave.; Station 6, 2401 Capital Ave. SW; and Station 7, W.K. Kellogg Airport/U.S. Air National Guard base.
1. Follow the study's recommendation to close current Stations 1, 2 and 3, combining them into one station in the area of Main Street and Dickman Road.
Close current Stations 4 and 7, combining them into one station to the east of W.K. Kellogg Airport, allowing better coverage of the Fort Custer area.
Refurbish Stations 5 and 6.
2. Close the current Station 3 and move that crew to the current Station 1.
Build a new Station 2 in the area of that current station.
Follow the rest of the scenario in Option 1.
3. Close current Stations 1 and 3, combining them into one station in the area of Main Street and Dickman Road.
Follow the rest of the scenario in Option 2.
Residents had the chance to tour Stations 1 through 6 in October. You can take virtual tours by watching the videos below.
City partners Beacon Community and Project 20/20 hosted community conversations to collect public input on this topic. Comments gained from the conversations and other sources will be used by fire and other city officials to help inform decisions related to the future of fire facilities. These meetings were held on Nov. 5, 14, 16 and 17
