This project is required to replace a ground based visual aid called a Visual Approach Slope Indicator (VASI), that was destroyed by a lightning strike, with a Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI). Additionally, as result of replacing the VASI with a PAPI, a component of the project is to mitigate obstructions that are in the approach path and hazards to air navigation.

This consists of surveying the site, preparing a set of plans, and developing tehcnical specifications for bidding purposes.
Project documents are published for contractors to review and submit a bid.
February 2017 to April 2017
Contrators will mitigate the obstructions in the Runway 13 approach surface and install the PAPI.
Anticipated May 2017
The FAA's Flight Inspection Field Office will perform a flight inspection to commission the PAPI, to ensure it is safe for use by aircraft.
