Battle Creek Unlimited will hold a Child Care Town Hall virtual meeting this Thursday, Nov. 18 at 8:30 a.m. to explore options to the child care crisis in our community.
Battle Creek is facing a severe early childhood workforce shortage, and struggles to meet the child care demand generated from the city’s reopening, and the return of many parents to in-person employment. Research shows that the national child care workforce has shrunk 15% since pre-pandemic times. Roughly 35% of child care workers were laid off at the beginning of the pandemic. Each of you have expressed your experience with this reality. Our community’s ability to find, afford and secure quality child care stands in the way of many folks returning to or sustaining work.
We’ll hear from local and national experts to better understand the scope of the child care challenges facing us today; learn about local efforts to address those challenges; and explore the role each of us plays in making progress on the issue.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
· State of current child care (Pulse)
· Local opportunities to address child care challenges (Pulse & BC Shared Services Alliance)
· KinderCare: Bringing Your Life To Work And Your Work To Life (KinderCare)
· Next steps (Pulse & BCU)
Please RSVP to Paula (firstname.lastname@example.org or 269.441.1667) by noon on 11/16/21 and the Zoom details will be provided to you. We invite you to join us Thursday 11/18/21 at 8:30 a.m. for a virtual town hall on child care.
