City completes commission chambers audio upgrade

City Commission chambers

Those attending City Commission meetings in person and watching from home should notice a marked improvement in sound quality, starting with tomorrow’s meeting.

Over the last 2.5 weeks, the city has worked with Battle Creek-based BC Sound to replace microphones, calibrate speakers, and upgrade and improve audio and video controls in the third-floor chambers at City Hall.

The microphones for commissioners and staff now are goose necks, offering better sound projection for those speaking. The microphone at the public podium also is new, and can better pick up all voices.

The entire system has better power-saving functions, and more modern technology for recording City Commission and other meetings. The speakers and sound enhancement technology were re-used for this project. Upgrades also include a press box under the long side table in the chambers, providing eight new XLR audio connectors to accommodate equipment used by the media.

The project cost was approximately $22,000. The upgrades allow chambers to better accommodate meetings and events beyond the regular monthly meetings of city boards and commissions.

Staff who worked on the project appreciate feedback on the sound; send any input to PublicInput@battlecreekmi.gov.
