[ARCHIVED] Deadline extended for Takasaki student exchange

Group in Takasaki 2015

NOTE: Deadline date corrected to April 13 because city offices are closed on April 14 for Good Friday.

The City of Battle Creek has extended the deadline to apply to this year’s cultural exchange with our sister city – Takasaki, Japan.

Battle Creek area high school students and teacher chaperones now have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 13 to apply.

This exciting and enriching opportunity is available to any high school student in the Battle Creek area. Local educators also can represent the city by serving as chaperones for the 2017 program.

The program includes a 10-day hosting experience in Battle Creek and a 10-day travel experience to Japan, for 20 days total. Battle Creek’s high school delegation will consist of four high school students and a teacher/chaperone.

Battle Creek high school families will host Takasaki students from July 23 to Aug. 2, then will depart for Takasaki City on Aug. 2, returning on Aug. 13.

This year’s program applications are now available on the city’s website, www.battlecreekmi.gov/takasaki, and may be submitted to Room 206 at City Hall, 10 N. Division St. See the application packets online for more information or call Assistant to the City Manager Jacob Schacht at 269-966-3378.

The student exchange program is a volunteer exchange sponsored and organized by the Battle Creek Area International Relations Committee. The exchange program between the two cities began in 1981.
