Based on feedback the city has received regarding the process of requesting inspections, a policy change will begin on Monday, Nov. 13.
Requests for next-day city inspections must be received by 12 p.m. (noon) the day prior to the requested inspection date.
Previously, next-day inspection calls were received up to the end of the previous day, making it difficult for inspectors to maintain a manageable and efficient schedule, and to coordinate advanced arrival times. The change will allow city inspectors the time to work with contractors and neighbors to establish, in advance and based on the customer’s availability, the next day’s inspection schedule.
It is the city’s intention to make the inspection request process as convenient and customer-friendly as possible. Feedback on this process was a result of comments from contractors and community members who have provided ideas or suggestions on processes, procedures, and potential changes.
The city’s Inspections Division is an enforcing agency of the State of Michigan Construction Code. This code regulates design, construction, repair or alteration, and general maintenance of buildings. The city employs trade inspectors – building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing – and also contracts with backup inspectors as needed.
