Police investigate two overnight shootings

Battle Creek Police are investigating two shootings that happened this morning, resulting in one death.

Police do not believe the shootings are connected to each other, or to other recent shootings.

 

  • At about 12:05 a.m. police responded to an incident at the Cricket Club bar downtown, on West Michigan Avenue. A number of customers physically fought with bar security staff and, during the fight, one person fire two shots from a handgun.
     
     Those shots hit a 29-year-old man, who died from his injuries at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
     
     Police recovered the gun at the scene, and officers took the person who fired the shots to the Battle Creek Police Department for an interview by detectives.
     
     Police continue to investigate, and are asking for help from anyone who was at the Cricket Club during this incident. If you saw the fight, or have cell phone video of it, please contact BCPD by calling the non-emergency line at 269-781-0911.
     
  • At about 4:30 a.m., police responded to a home in the 100 block of North McKinley Avenue for multiple calls about a woman shooting a gun.
     
     Officers found a 38-year-old man in the backyard of the home, with a single gunshot wound to his torso. He is in stable condition after treatment at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
     
     Police found the woman inside the home, and arrested her without incident. The man and woman had a relationship with each other.
     
     Police continue to investigate this incident.
