Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 40 Ferndale Court around 9:00 am. Rescue 4 was first to arrive to a small one-story residential home with heavy fire involvement coming from the roof. Some of the neighbors broke out three windows, fearing for the possible safety of pets, but unfortunately this action only intensified the fire. No pets or occupants were in the house at the time of arrival. Car 3 arrived and took command. Rescue 4 and Rescue 3 pulled attack lines making an interior attack, while Squad 6 assumed RIT (Rapid Intervention Team). Rescue 4 and Rescue 3 Equipment Operators established a water supply. Truck 6 secured utilities and assumed safety, while Engine 2 performed ventilation and overhaul. Engine 5 was released to cover the city. The Fire Marshal is investigating the fire and the cause is undetermined at this time.
