Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to the former Southwestern Junior High School at 390 S Washington Ave. Squad 2 and Car 3 arrived within three minutes to find light smoke showing from the building. After further investigation, fire was found in the auditorium area.  Engine 2, Squad 2, and Engine 5 stretched a hand-line to extinguish the fire.  Rescue 3 and Squad 6 assisted with overhaul, while Truck 1 ventilated.  The fire was under control within 20 minutes. No injuries were reported.  Due to the quick actions of the fire department, the damage was isolated to just the stage area. The Fire Marshal is investigating the suspicious fire for cause.
