BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City street crews will work on asphalt paving at a recent utility cut in the intersection of Capital Avenue SW and Columbia Avenue, resulting in lane shifts at the intersection Saturday, May 20.

The following lane shifts will be in place at the intersection of Capital Avenue SW and Columbia Avenue Saturday:

  • Northern lane of westbound Columbia, to the east of Capital, will be shifted. Traffic will still be able to turn right onto Capital.
  • Eastern lane of northbound Capital, to the south of Columbia, will be shifted. Traffic will still be able to turn right onto Columbia.

Crews expect to work on this project from 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m. There are no expected road closures because of this work and access to businesses in this area will not be affected.

Additional asphalt paving work by city street crews at a recent utility cut will result in the temporary closure of a section of West Territorial Road Monday, May 22.

The specific section of West Territorial Road impacted by this temporary closure is:

  • West Territorial Road, between Foster Avenue and Pioneer Street

A proposed detour route for traffic using West Territorial Road is as follows:

  • Eastbound traffic: Turn right onto Pioneer Street, turn left onto Fairfield Avenue, turn left onto Foster Avenue, and then turn right to resume eastbound on West Territorial Road
  • Westbound traffic: Turn left onto Foster Avenue, turn right onto Fairfield Avenue, turn right onto Pioneer Street, and then turn left to resume westbound on West Territorial Road

Crews anticipate a work period of 8 a.m.-1 p.m. for this project. Neighbors living within this closure area will still have access in and out of their homes.

We appreciate everyone’s patience during all work on our city’s infrastructure.
