(Original release/project information below)
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City contractor crews have begun milling and paving work in the Piper Park neighborhood as part of this year’s road rehabilitation project in the city through early November.
This rehabilitation work is occurring in three phases along each roadway. During the first phase, crews from Hunter Prell work to replace sidewalk ramps along the roadways, to bring them into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Once the ramps are completed, Lakeland Asphalt crews start the final two phases of the rehabilitation work by first milling, removing part of the old pavement surface, and then repaving the roadway.
The following sections of roadway are included in this road rehabilitation project:
- McKinley Avenue North, from Capital Avenue NE to East Emmett Street
- North Wabash Avenue, from Capital Avenue NE to East Emmett Street
- North Broad Street, from Capital Avenue NE to Bryant Street
- Piper Avenue, from Sherman Road to Bryant Street
- Bryant Street, from North Wabash Avenue to Convis Street
- Radley Street, from North Wabash Avenue to Woodward Avenue
- Sherman Road, from McKinley Avenue North to North Wabash Avenue, and from North Broad Street to East Avenue North
Crews will notify neighbors via door-hangers when their section of roadway is ready for both milling and paving. Updates will also be shared about roadways currently being milled and paved on both the city’s Nextdoor and interactive construction project map at, https://battlecreekmi.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=8bcd8770654d4e1fb8b3141be056d3e1.
Although there are no road closures during this project, when your roadway is being worked on, we ask that neighbors do not park on the street to allow milling and paving work to proceed uninterrupted. Neighbors will be able to access their driveways during this project. Crews will also be onsite to help guide neighbors around any ongoing construction, as well.
Work hours during this rehabilitation project will generally be from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Crews expect that all sidewalk ramp replacement, milling, and paving work in the Piper Park neighborhood to be completed by early November.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during all work on our city’s infrastructure.
