[ARCHIVED] Traffic flow changes coming as new PD building construction to begin

Battle Creek Police Department officials are excited to announce that construction of the new BCPD building will begin in the next two weeks.

Officials thank the community and the City Commission for their input and support of this project. The commission Tuesday night approved the awarding of construction contracts, as part of the $15.5 million project. The new building is designed to provide much-needed space to police staff, as well as community spaces, helping better connect police and the community.

The new Police Department site is across John Patterson Way from the current department, currently a parking lot. The entire building process is expected to take approximately 18 months, with changes in traffic flow and parking around Battle Creek City Hall and the current Police Department.

The first construction phase will take four to six weeks.

During this phase, Patterson will be closed to thru traffic from East Michigan Avenue to Division Street. Both entrances to the City Hall parking lot will be accessible, as will the handicapped parking for the Calhoun County Justice Center. The service drive off of Division Street, leading into the Justice Center public and employee parking lot, also will be accessible.

Signs will be posted around this area.

The city will communicate via our website, social media, and area media outlets as phases progress and any changes are made to traffic and parking locations around the building site. Please use caution as you travel in this area and thanks for your patience as we make these improvements.
