[ARCHIVED] Annual fall cleanup set for next week

Waste Management truck

The city’s annual fall cleanup will take place next week – Monday, Sept. 18 to Friday, Sept. 22 – for City of Battle Creek residents only.

This cleanup period allows residents to place at the curb, on their regular trash/recycling pickup day, up to 10 cubic yards of construction waste. It will be picked up by Waste Management, the city’s trash and recycling hauler, at no extra charge.

All materials must be contained or, when appropriate (carpet and/or boards), must be bundled into four-foot lengths and securely tied. Items set out may not weigh more than 50 pounds per item/bundle.

Hazardous waste and treated lumber will not be accepted. However, the next household hazardous waste collection event is set for 10 am to noon on Saturday, Sept. 30 in the Calhoun County building parking lot, 315 W. Green St. For more information on this and other recycling events, visit calhouncountyrecycling.com.

Yard waste pickup at the curb continues through Dec. 1. City of Battle Creek neighbors, on their usual trash/recycling pickup days, can place yard waste in specially-marked containers, paper bags available from local retailers, or tied in four-foot bundles. As with fall cleanup items, none of those may weigh more than 50 pounds apiece.

See the city’s website, www.battlecreekmi.gov, for more information about recycling and other environmental services. Under the City Government tab, click Departments, Public Works, Environmental Services.
