[ARCHIVED] Apartment fire investigation continues

The investigation into the cause of the fire at Village Inn Apartments, 80 Riverside Drive, continues today, and rescued pets can be retrieved at the Calhoun County Animal Center.


The Animal Center is at 165 Union St. South, and 269-963-6582.


Crews were called to the apartment complex at 10:27 p.m. Sunday. Battle Creek, Emmett Township, Pennfield Township, and VA Medical Center crews responded, for about 28 personnel.


The final crews cleared at approximately 11:30 a.m. today. Fire Marshal Quincy Jones continues to investigate, and a cause has not yet been determined.


Approximately 80 people are displaced from the complex, with the American Red Cross assisting with shelter. All residents are accounted for at this time.


Two firefighters were injured during the blaze – one suffered from exhaustion, and one received a minor forearm injury. Both have received treatment.
