BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek Police arrested a 31-year-old Battle Creek man with a felony warrant, following their response to a report of suspicious activity on North Avenue Wednesday, June 7.
Police responded to a call around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, in the 100 block of North Avenue to check on a report of suspicious subjects behind a home in the area.
While making their initial contact with the subjects, one of the responding officers on the scene recognized one of the subjects as an adult man who he believed may have a warrant. However, officers were unable to confirm the status of the possible warrant, as the man made it back inside the home. It was ultimately determined by officers that the 31-year-old man did in fact have a felony warrant for his arrest.
Officers first attempted to contact the suspect at the door of the home to get him to come outside, however, the man didn’t respond. BCPD’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) officers were able to assist in obtaining a search warrant for the home and in securing the home’s exterior.
Due to the suspect’s history of having weapons at the home, the BCPD Emergency Response Team (ERT) was contacted to execute the search warrant. As a result, part of North Avenue was temporarily blocked off to traffic and pedestrians for a short period of time, until the situation had been resolved.
The ERT entered the home and located the suspect in the home’s basement. No firearms were found in the home. The man was taken into custody and has been lodged at the Calhoun County Jail.
