Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to an occupied structure fire at approximately 9:05 a.m. Engine 4 and Engine 5 arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the rear of the structure. After a quick investigation, it was determined to be a kitchen fire, and both companies pulled an attack line and extinguished the fire. Car 3 took command, Truck 1 and Rescue 2 performed primary and secondary searches, Rescue 6 established a water supply and handled utilities, while E3 set up ventilation and became the Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC). All occupants were evacuated safely and one was treated for smoke inhalation. The Fire Marshal and Fire Inspector were on the scene and the fire is currently under investigation.
