[ARCHIVED] Community invited to learn, share about Beckley Road corridor

Graphic with image of Beckley Road area promoting survey linked in post.

The city is working on a new vision for the Beckley Road corridor, a large commercial area on the south side of the city, and we want to hear from the community!

We are working with consultant Progressive AE to rethink what the Beckley corridor could look like with future redevelopment, to increase the economic vitality and attractiveness of this aging part of the city. This work will incorporate housing opportunities, day and night uses, and better mobility for cars, pedestrians, and public transit, while enhancing the area’s natural environment.

There are no plans for immediate projects following this assessment, but it is a needed step to help guide future opportunities.

There are several ways for neighbors to participate:

  • There is a survey available now where you can share input about the future of the Beckley Road and Lakeview Square Mall area. It asks for feedback about housing, jobs, shopping, and more. Your answers are anonymous and will contribute to the new vision for this area.
    1. Access the survey directly here: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/7673801/Beckley-Road-Market-Analysis-Survey
    2. You can also access the survey link and more Beckley Road information on our website, battlecreekmi.gov.

  • The city and Progressive AE will hold the first of several public talks, available live on Zoom, and as recordings to watch later. This will be an opportunity for our consultant to update the community on the assessment’s progress, as well as take feedback and answer questions. The first one is next week:
    1. Thursday, Feb. 22 from 12 noon-1:30 p.m.
    2. Join the meeting online using this link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87883289449?pwd=O5damcNdixSuANYXJvx39nRfkOHafi.1
    3. Or join the meeting by calling in by phone at 312-626-6799. Enter meeting ID 878-8328-9449. The passcode to join the meeting is 155794.

Stay tuned throughout this year for more opportunities to engage and give feedback about the Beckley Road corridor, part of the Lakeview Downtown Development Authority. The city commission approved this assessment project last fall, estimated to cost $288,833 and paid for by American Rescue Plan Act funds.
