The city’s Public Works team will use a small drone over roads where we are proposing construction in 2024.
Staff will use a small unmanned aircraft system, or sUAS, that can take video. They will always staff a Federal Aviation Administration-licensed pilot and at least one spotter/observer while operating the drone, and they will not maintain flights over people or moving vehicles.
Staff plan to fly the drone over proposed construction areas from 1-4 p.m. starting this Friday, March 15, through next Friday, March 22. Below are the areas they plan to fly. Please note that the Capital Avenue project is the only one so far with an awarded contract. The others are proposed and will be considered as we proceed into the construction season.

Public Works staff plan to use the drone going forward to inspect construction projects and, occasionally, city infrastructure. We also may use the images in our marketing and messaging, and other uses as needed.
