BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek Police responded to a report of a vehicle that crashed into the Dollar General on Capital Avenue SW in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 28.

Officers arrived on scene at 588 Capital Ave. SW, accompanied by LifeCare Ambulance and the Battle Creek Fire Department’s Rescue 4 and Car 3, shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday, March 28, in response to a report of a vehicle having crashed into a building.

Police located a 2012 GMC Envoy inside the Dollar General, located at 588 Capital Ave. SW. Upon further investigation, it appeared that the vehicle had been traveling southbound along Capital Avenue SW when the driver missed the curve in the road, right near the Dollar General. The vehicle then left the road, striking the rear of the Dollar General, and finally coming to a stop inside of the building, causing extensive damage.

BCFD’s Rescue 4 had to free the driver from the crashed vehicle. The driver, an approximately 25-year-old man, was then transported and treated at a local hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Police believe that both speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the accident, which is still under investigation.
