Battle Creek Police have confirmed the identity of the suspect in the early Tuesday, April 16, morning Spencer Street shooting as 43-year-old Thomas Knickerbocker of Battle Creek. Knickerbocker was arraigned Wednesday, April 17, on charges of open murder, felony firearm, assault with intent to murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and habitual fourth violent offender. No bond was offered during the arraignment.
Police can also share that the injured 34-year-old Battle Creek woman in this incident is in stable condition as of yesterday, Thursday, April 18.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A Battle Creek man is dead, and a woman is injured, following a shooting on Spencer Street in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 16.
Battle Creek Police responded to a report of a shooting in the first block of Spencer Street shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday, April 16. Upon their arrival, officers located two victims inside of a home with apparent gunshot wounds.
The Battle Creek Fire Department’s Engine 3 and three LifeCare ambulances also responded to the report of the shooting on Spencer Street.
Life-saving measures, with assistance from BCFD and LifeCare, were given to both victims, however, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have confirmed the identity of the deceased man as 47-year-old Clayton Holt of Battle Creek.
The other victim was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo and is currently in critical condition. Police have identified the injured victim as a 34-year-old Battle Creek woman.
Officers in the area, serving as a perimeter a few blocks from the incident, were able to locate and take into custody a 43-year-old Battle Creek resident as a suspect in this shooting. The suspect is currently lodged at the Calhoun County Jail for open murder and assault with intent to murder.
