BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City contractor crews began sewer repair work at Union Street and Ivanhoe Street, resulting in a temporary road closure along Union, beginning today, Monday, May 13.
The specific section of Union Street impacted by this temporary road closure is:
- Union Street South, from Ivanhoe Street to Michigan Avenue
The following recommended detour route will be in place during the temporary road closure along Union Street:
- Northbound Union Street traffic – Continue westbound on Michigan Avenue, turn right on Elm Street, turn right on East Van Buren Street, and then turn left on Union Street South to resume northbound.
- Southbound Union Street traffic – Turn right on East Van Buren Street, turn left on Elm Street, turn left on Michigan Avenue, and then turn left on Union Street South to access southern part of Union.
Crews began this sewer repair work today, Monday, May 13. Due to both the depth of the sewer and high groundwater in the area, crews anticipate that the repair work could take up to 4 or 5 weeks, with an expected completion date of June 14.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during all work on our city’s infrastructure.
