8/8/2024 Update: The Battle Creek Police Department confirmed shortly before 9 p.m. this evening, Thursday, Aug. 8, that Steven James Oostindie has been found safe.
Dispatch received a call from a Battle Creek resident who shared that they believed that Oostindie had been spotted.
Oostindie was located in the area of Washington Avenue South and Dickman Road. He is now back home safe, as no medical attention was needed.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek Police are asking for the community’s assistance in locating a missing and endangered person this evening, Thursday, Aug. 8.
Steven James Oostindie, a 63-year-old white man, is currently missing and endangered, as he is diagnosed with dementia.
Oostindie was last seen walking away from 224 Fremont St. around 2 p.m. this afternoon, Thursday, Aug. 8, when he walked off in an unknown direction.
Other identifying information for Oostindie includes:
- Height: 6 ft.
- Weight: 185 lbs.
- Date of birth: May 4, 1961
- Last seen wearing: White T-shirt and jean shorts, and using a cane to walk
The Battle Creek Police Department is utilizing search and rescue to check the surrounding area, as well as a drone to help locate Oostindie.
