BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A 24-year-old man is in custody following reports of shots fired into a home on Laura Lane early Friday morning, Aug. 9.
Battle Creek Police were dispatched to the first block of Laura Lane at 2:58 a.m., Friday, Aug. 9. Officers on scene found several bullet holes in the windows of a home. The home was occupied at the time of the shooting, but none of the occupants — a 31-year-old man, 27-year-old woman, and four children under the age of 10 — were struck by gunfire.
The occupants stated they were inside the house when they heard a knock at the door, followed by gunfire. The occupants reported that after several shots were fired through the windows, two men kicked the front door open and shot once at the 31-year-old man, who was not hit. The suspects then fled in a vehicle.
The BCPD released the vehicle description on the radio and, a short time later, Calhoun County Sheriff deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description.
The vehicle occupants were two men and two women, and a 9mm pistol was retrieved from under the driver's seat; 9mm casings were found at the scene.
The 24-year-old driver was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, assault with intent, and on an unrelated warrant.
