Full Details: On Sunday, November 10, just before 2:30 p.m., Battle Creek Fire Department crews responded to a fire at a single-­family home on Van Buren Street. 

Upon arrival, Engine 3 found flames coming from a first-floor window and quickly deployed a hose line to begin extinguishing the fire. 

Shortly after, Truck 1 arrived and began a search of the second floor for any trapped occupants. Neighbors reported hearing calls for help from inside the home, but no individuals were found. Rescue 2, Engine 5, and Rescue 6 assisted with search and rescue operations and fire suppression efforts. 

The fire was brought under control within an hour and a half. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal. Tragically, three dogs and three cats perished in the fire. No other injuries were reported. 

The Red Cross is providing temporary lodging assistance to the displaced residents.
