BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Consumers Energy will begin work on a multi-phase project at the Jackson Street West parking lot located off of Carlyle Street, resulting in a temporary, partial road closure along Jackson, beginning Monday, July 28.

Consumers Energy's project aims to remove old and outdated equipment and to install new service through the Jackson Street West parking lot. Specifically, crews will work to remove an old substation that is no longer in use in the parking lot, as well as to update underground power lines and conduit in the lot.

During this project, a temporary, partial road closure will be in place along Jackson Street West, directly next to the Jackson parking lot, in order to have adequate space for needed equipment during work.

Consumers Energy expects the project's two phases to last 75 days, beginning Monday, July 28, with an expected completion date of Monday, Dec. 15.

While the parking lot will have some parking spots closed during this project, the Jackson Street West parking lot will remain open, and neighbors are reminded about an alternate route into and out of the lot (see the attached map.)

Neighbors are also reminded that despite this closure, all of our great Downtown Battle Creek businesses are still open and easily accessible, with slightly adjusted routes.

In addition, there are two relatively close-by parking alternatives:

  • Michigan Avenue parking ramp - located at 80 W. Michigan Ave. - 3 hours of free parking from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and free parking from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following day
  • Van Buren lot S - located at 45 McCamly St. - All day free parking

For more information about parking options in Downtown Battle Creek, visit ABM Parking Services' Battle Creek parking website.

We appreciate our neighbors’ understanding and patience during all work to improve infrastructure across the City of Battle Creek.
