BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance were dispatched to an animal feed manufacturing facility on Angell Street shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30.
The BCFD's Car 3 arrived on scene at ReConserve of Michigan, located at 170 Angell St., to find heavy, black smoke coming from the building's venting ductwork. Rescue 2 and Engine 5 made entry to investigate, and found a dryer unit with an active fire inside.
The fire was confined to the dryer unit; however, the unit's suppression system was not adequate to extinguish the fire. With the assistance of Truck 1, units applied water to the fire through an access hatch. The fire was extinguished after several hours of applying water into the machine.
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported. The BCFD shared that the fire appeared accidental in nature.
