Other information: Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a report of an occupied structure fire. The fire was reported in apartment 208. Upon arrival, Car 3 and Rescue 3 found a large volume of smoke on the second-floor balcony. Evacuation was in progress. R-3 pulled an attack hose line and made entry into apartment 208, and quickly extinguished the bulk of the fire. We later did find some extension into attic area and extinguished that. The adjacent apartment on the west side did sustain some minor damage and the apartment below received some minor water damage. All other fire units arrived and assisted with the safe evacuation of all residents and helped perform overhaul. Crews were on scene a little over an hour. BCFD responded with three engines, two aerials, one squad, and one command car for a total of 19 personnel. The fire was most likely caused by grease being heated for frying; it remains under investigation.
