[ARCHIVED] Police recommend avoiding downtown during protest

BCPD_Patch-

Battle Creek Police anticipate another planned protest downtown late this afternoon, and recommend neighbors who are not participating avoid the area.

The protest follows multiple peaceful protests yesterday in the downtown area and beyond, related to the Black Lives Matter movement, and the death of George Floyd as he was detained by police in Minneapolis.

Police are asking neighbors to avoid downtown, and have recommended various facilities send workers home early, out of an abundance of caution for safety as today’s protest takes place. This was not necessary yesterday, as there is less traffic, and there are fewer facilities open over the weekend.

We ask all neighbors to stay safe, and protest peacefully as they exercise their rights in our city.
