While all employees and visitors currently use the east entrance to the building, a proposed new building layout moves the public entrance to the south side of the building. The east entrance would be for employees only.

A central reception desk is proposed for inside the south entrance, staffed to help visitors by providing information and directions to offices and meetings in the building. There may be self-service kiosks and digital signs as well as a change to customer service windows for the Clerk’s and Treasurer’s offices.

The city also has developed two new parking concepts, which would place handicapped parking spaces at the south entrance.

A historic building, more than 100 years old, Battle Creek City Hall houses offices for the following departments and divisions: Assessing, Treasurer, Utility Billing, Clerk, Income Tax, Code Compliance, Planning, Community Development, Inspections, City Manager, City Attorney, Finance, Labor Relations, Human Resources, Purchasing, Information Systems and Print Shop, as well as the City Commission chambers and conference rooms.
