[ARCHIVED] City holds online rain barrel sale

Rain barrel

The City of Battle Creek is, once again, holding an online rain barrel sale, to encourage residents to collect and save valuable water in our community.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, lawn and garden watering make up nearly 40 percent of total household water use during the summer. Rain barrels collect water and store it for when you need it to water your garden or wash your car.

Purchase a rain barrel at They are available for $56.50 each in a variety of colors. Anyone may purchase the rain barrels, whether a city resident or not.

Mail-in orders must be received by June 10 and online orders must be placed by June 13. The mail-in form is available at the above website.

The pre-ordered rain barrels will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 18 at the city’s Department of Public Works, 150 S. Kendall St. Someone can pick up your barrel in your place; please bring your payment receipt. Orders not picked up at this time will be donated to local schools for educational purposes.

Saving water helps protect the environment and diverts water away from storm drains, decreasing the impact of runoff to streams. For more information on rain barrels, visit the Battle Creek Area Clean Water Partners at
