Neighbors age 18 and older have until Sunday, April 18 to register to vote in the May 4 election by mail or online.
After that date, you can register to vote, but must do so in person, with your identification and proof of where you live. The May 4 election is for school district proposals.
The City Clerk team wants to inform everyone about these deadlines and processes for registering to vote, getting your absentee ballot, or voting on Election Day:
- April 18 to May 4 – In-person voter registration. Please call the Clerk’s team at 269-966-3348 or 269-966-3311 to make an appointment to visit City Hall for this.
- April 30 – Last day the city can mail out absentee ballots. Remember that anyone in Michigan can request an absentee ballot; you don’t need a reason.
- Saturday, May 1 – City Hall is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. so voters can request absentee ballots in person.
- Monday, May 3 – Last day registered voters can request an absentee ballot. You must vote the ballot at the City Clerk’s office, and cannot take the ballot with you.
- Tuesday, May 4 – Election Day! The Clerk’s Office at City Hall is open 7 a.m. until the polls close (8 p.m.) and the Receiving Board finalizes checking election documents from the precincts.
When you complete your absentee ballot, you can place it in the marked, secure drop box just outside the entrance to City Hall. The drop box is under camera surveillance and team members empty it throughout each day.
City Hall will be open only for the business outlined above. Please complete other city business by phone and online.
If you visit City Hall for election business, please wear a mask, use social distancing, and know that you will have a health screening at the door. We appreciate everyone following the public health safety protocols.
