The city will replace and repair parts of our water system along Columbia Avenue over the next two weekends.

The improvements will require water shutoffs, and boil water advisories. We do our best to coordinate projects so there is less inconvenience to neighbors, and more efficiency. Later this construction season the Michigan Department of Transportation will resurface Columbia.

The work phases and boundaries are below, and on a map with this release. It is most likely that each water shutoff will start in the evening. Exact times will depend on what the crews find when they start the work.

A great way to stay updated about our work on the city water system is to sign up for alert notifications. Visit battlecreekmi.gov/notifyme to get started. Choose email and/or text notifications for Water System Information in the Alert category. We share water system work there, when we issue the boil water advisories, and when we cancel them.

It is common to see discolored water after this kind of work. We flush hydrants in the area to help with this, and you can cold flush the water in your home to help clear it.
