[ARCHIVED] City summer camp, Full Blast closed until further notice

Black and white image with red accents, calendar page, and exclamation point for recreation closure

Due to a summer camp counselor testing positive for COVID-19 today, the city’s camp will close immediately, until further notice.

Full Blast Recreation Center – including the fitness center – also is closed until further notice, so we can clean and sanitize the building, and test our remaining camp staff for COVID-19.

We hold summer camp at Full Blast from June to August. We host an average of 100 children per week, and have 25 camp staff. Due to the summer heat, and no air conditioning in our facility, most camp activities take place outside.

City staff are calling all camp families to notify them of the situation and camp closure. We will share camp and facility reopening plans when they become available.

The Calhoun County Public Health Department will call anyone who was a close contact to the counselor, and provide instructions. A close contact is anyone who was within six feet of that person for a total of 15 minutes or more.

We will continue to work closely with the Public Health Department to make sure campers, staff, and facility visitors receive any information they need related to the situation.

Flash Flood Water Park will remain open from 12-6 p.m. daily. The water park operates separately from Full Blast, and visitors enter from the outside.

We appreciate everyone’s patience, and encourage you to get the COVID-19 vaccination if possible.
