[ARCHIVED] City Hall to resume holding all public meetings electronically

City Hall to resume holding all public meetings electronically

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Beginning Monday, August 9, City Hall will revert back to holding public meetings electronically.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the rising level of disease transmission rates in Calhoun County, we will be following CDC guidelines, which classifies a community as having substantial transmission if there are 50 to 99 cumulative weekly cases per 100,000 residents, or if the positivity rate is between 8.0 and 9.9% in the last seven days.

Calhoun County's recent COVID-19 transmission data, between July 26 and Aug. 1, is 67.83 cases per 100,000 with a percent positivity level of 5.81%.

This is a measure implemented to protect employees and elected officials from exposure to COVID-19, under the city’s obligation to maintain a safe and healthful work environment free of recognized hazards.

The decision to go electronic is based on the determination that the personal health of members of the public or the public body, would be at risk if the meeting were held in person, as permitted by the Open Meetings Act (OMA) based upon the October 15, 2020 Extension of the Declaration of Local Emergency by Calhoun County Board of Commissioners.

City facilities will remain open to the public. Visitors are strongly encouraged to wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are available at city facilities.
