Battle Creek Police continue to investigate a shooting that put an 18-year-old young man in the hospital.
Officers responded at 5:09 p.m. today to a shots fired call in the 500 block of West Jackson Street.
They found the 18-year-old with a single gunshot wound to his head. He was alive but unresponsive, and was taken to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. He was stabilized there, and transferred to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, where he is tonight.
Also when officers arrived, they saw a vehicle leaving at high speed, and attempted a traffic stop. The car stopped at first, and as an officer told them to shut off the car, it sped off again. Officers chased the vehicle west on Dickman Road, until the vehicle lost control, crashed and rolled into a ditch near the railroad tracks, just outside of Augusta. No one was injured.
Police arrested the four men in the vehicle, and took them back to the station for interviews. The driver faces fleeing and eluding charges, and the two backseat passengers face a concealed weapon in auto charge for having a gun in the car. The front passenger was not facing charges at the time of this news release.
Police detectives continue to investigate the shooting, and potential connections to the men from the car chase. Anyone with information should call police at 269-781-0911, or Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
We will share more information as police have it.
