[ARCHIVED] BCPD submits case against Cricket Club shooter

Battle Creek Police Department patch

Battle Creek Police have submitted a case to the Calhoun County Prosecutor against the man who shot Xavier West early Thanksgiving morning at the Cricket Club in downtown Battle Creek.

After reviewing video footage and speaking to witnesses, police determined they have enough evidence to recommend a case against Adam Yancer, a Cricket Club employee.

The incident took place just after midnight Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 25. A number of customers physically fought with each other, and with security staff the Cricket Club hired for that night. Yancer fired his gun, striking West, 29, in the chest. He died from his injuries at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.

Police continue to investigate, and seek witness statements and videos from anyone at the Cricket Club that night. They have received some information after Chief Jim Blocker’s press conference Wednesday. They will continue to review all materials they receive.

Anyone with information can contact police at 269-966-3322, via non-emergency dispatch at 269-781-0911, or via Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.

Battle Creek Police will not make further public comment until after the Prosecutor’s Office reviews the case.
