The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 74 Chestnut St.  Car 3 arrived within four minutes with nothing visible from the exterior of a four unit residential structure. Engine 2 investigated further to find working fire conditions on the first floor. A hand line was extended and fire was extinguished within minutes. The search for any occupants continued with Engine 2, Rescue 3, Engine 4, Squad 6, and Truck 6. It was later determined that the structure was vacant and unoccupied. No injuries were reported. Due to the quick actions of the fire department, the damage was isolated to the first floor of one unit. The Fire Marshal and Battle Creek Police Department are investigating the suspicious fire for cause.
