Rescue 6 was the first unit to arrive on scene to find smoke coming from the eaves of the attic. Rescue 6 pulled an attack hose line to make an interior attack and quickly gained fire control on the third floor. Crews then pulled ceiling to quickly gain fire control in the attic space. Truck 1 crew simultaneously performed vertical ventilation to vent superheated gases and clear smoke, so the interior units could see any spot fires and check for extension. The fire was caused by a contractor using a salamander heater that caught some plastic on fire, which spread rapidly up the wall and into the attic space. No civilians were injured. One firefighter sustained a back injury on scene and was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
