Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a fire in the former Southwestern Junior High School at 390 S Washington Ave. Car 3 arrived within three minutes to find smoke showing from the 3rd floor, east end, of the structure. Engine 2, Squad 2, and Rescue 3 extended a hand-line to extinguish a room on fire on the 3rd floor. Truck 1, Engine 5, Rescue 6, and Squad 6 assisted with fire attack. The fire was under control within 20 minutes. No injuries were reported. Due to the quick actions of the fire department, the damage was isolated to one room. This is the 2nd fire at this location within nine hours. The Fire Marshal is investigating the suspicious fire for cause.  Anyone with information on the fire should contact the Battle Creek Fire Department at 269-966-3519.
