Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire on S. Union Street at 3:00 p.m. Car 3 and Truck 1 arrived to discover dark brown smoke showing from the back porch of a residential boarding house. Engine 2 and Rescue 3 established a water supply, pulled an attack line, and performed a primary search. Fire was controlled very quickly, and both Engine 5 and Rescue 6 were released immediately from the scene. Fire was caused by unintentional discarded smoking material left near the trash located close to the back porch. Crews were on scene for approximately 30 minutes.
