Battle Creek Police have arrested a man on a charge of homicide and open murder for a violent crime that happened in December, 2021.
On December 3, 2021, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Michigan Ave. for a suspicious person in the area. Upon arrival, they were directed to an abandoned residence, where they located 51-year-old Ian Williams laying on the floor with severe trauma to his head.
Williams was transported to Bronson Battle Creek for treatment, and was eventually transferred to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
On December 14, 2021, Williams passed away from his injuries.
Battle Creek detectives and Crime Lab have worked diligently since the initial December assault conducting interviews, processing forensic evidence, and following up on tips from the community.
On April 14, 2022, investigators submitted a warrant request to the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office to charge 42-year-old Mohamed Saleh with the murder of Ian Williams.
The Calhoun County prosecutor approved this charge and Saleh is currently lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on a charge of homicide and open murder.
The Battle Creek Police Department would like to thank the Battle Creek community for the tips they sent in throughout this process. The cooperation and assistance from the community plays a vital role in achieving justice for the victims of violent crime.
The BCPD Victim Services Unit continues to be in contact with the Williams family throughout this difficult time.
