The Battle Creek Police Department and Lakeview High School have collaborated on a series of six short videos about bicycle safety.
As we enter the summer season, the BCPD hopes everyone will take a look at these and be mindful while on your bikes and in the car so that cyclists around the city can travel safely. Recent bicycle and vehicle accidents involving children prompted these reminders, especially as the weather warmed.
Students from Jodi Darland’s Broadcast Journalism class filmed and produced the six videos, which feature Mayor Dave Walters in a welcome and overview, and Officer Craig Wolf, a downtown liaison officer and the BCPD’s Bicycle Patrol Unit instructor.
Along with the overview, viewers can check out information from Officer Wolf on hazards while riding, responsibilities of both cyclists and motorists, protective gear, and how to check your bike before riding.
A big thank you to students Gwen Trautman and Alysia Cook, who took on this project. We hope everyone will enjoy these videos and remember the tips from Officer Wolf as you ride throughout the summer.
