The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 304 Garfield Ave. Engine 2 and Squad 2 arrived within three minutes to find fire and smoke showing from a second-floor bedroom. Engine 2 and Squad 2 extended a hose line to extinguish the fire. Truck 1 ventilated while Rescue 3 and Engine 5 performed support functions. All occupants had safely exited prior to arrival.  Two of the occupants were treated on scene for smoke inhalation. The fire was under control within 10 minutes and damage minimized due to the quick actions of the fire department. The cause of the fire was an unattended candle.
