Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire at 130 N. Brewer Drive. Rescue 6 and Squad 6 arrived within four minutes to find smoke showing from the apartment building's first floor. Rescue 6 and Squad 6 extended a hose line to extinguish the fire in the fire apartment, while Truck 1 and Squad 2 searched for any occupants. Car 3 assumed command. Engine 2 and Rescue 3 assisted with fireground operations. The occupants of the fire apartment were home at the time of the fire, and one occupant was treated and released on scene for smoke inhalation. A family pet (a dog) died in the fire. The adjoining apartments were evacuated, and those neighbors were allowed back into their apartments. The fire was under control within 10 minutes. The fire is believed to have started near the stove, and the cause is being investigated by the Fire Marshal.
