Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 109 Pleasant Ave. with a trapped resident unable to exit the structure at about 10:15 a.m. Engine 2, Squad 2, Squad 6, and Car 3 arrived to find smoke coming from the front of the house. Car 3 took command while crews deployed an attack line. Engine 2 went interior for the rescue finding the homeowner unresponsive on the kitchen floor, and removing her from the home. She was taken to the hospital and her condition is unknown at this time. Unfortunately, her dog did not survive after crews rescued it. Engine 1, Rescue 3, Engine 5, and Rescue 6 aided in primary searches, extinguishment, ventilation, securing utilities, and water supply. The homeowner was successfully rescued due to another outstanding job by the men and women of the Battle Creek Fire Department. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation with the Fire Marshal at this time.
