[ARCHIVED] Police remind neighbors to lock cars, remove valuables

Finger pointing right with blue string attached. Text: Reminder, lock your cars.

Battle Creek Police want to remind neighbors to lock your cars, and not leave any valuable items in your cars.

This reminder comes after police have noticed a significant increase in thefts of personal items from cars in the last few weeks, especially in neighborhoods around Goguac Lake.

After noticing this trend, police have participated in extra patrols. On one occasion, officers arrested three people suspected in some of the thefts. Unfortunately, thefts from cars continued even after these arrests.

The majority of the thefts have involved unlocked cars. Please remember to lock your car when you park, and remove anything valuable to you.

As always, if you see anything suspicious, or capture video footage in your neighborhood that could help police investigate these thefts, please call 911 to report it. Especially after the fact, you can also report a crime and upload photos or videos at Click the Report a Crime icon.
