[ARCHIVED] Soil boring collections to result in lane shifts, road closure Thursday

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City contractors from Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc. (SME) will perform soil borings near the intersections of the CN Railroad with each of E. Michigan Avenue, Elm Street, and S. Kendall Street Thursday, Feb. 16, resulting in lane shifts and a road closure.

The soil boring collections at the intersection of the CN Railroad and E. Michigan Avenue will take place along Michigan, between Union Street S. and Gilbert Street.

  • Lane shifts will be in place along E. Michigan Avenue, between Union Street S. and Gilbert Street, during work hours.

The intersection of the CN Railroad and Elm Street will have soil borings collected along Elm, between Mary Street and Bennett Street.

  • During work hours, lane shifts will be in place along Elm Street, between Mary Street and Bennett Street.

The collection of soil borings at the intersection of the CN Railroad and S. Kendall Street will be taken along Kendall, between W. Dickman Road and Grand Trunk Avenue.

  • The southbound lane of S. Kendall Street will be closed, from W. Dickman Road to Grand Trunk Avenue, with a posted detour in place for neighbors and motorists. 

The overall time frame for the soil boring collection work is 7 a.m.-6 p.m., with each site taking approximately three hours for each collection.
