City of Battle Creek buildings will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 23, due to ongoing icy weather, a continuation of our closure today.

According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain and ice could continue through 10 p.m. today, though some rain/snow might continue into early tomorrow morning. Battle Creek was named one of the hardest hit areas, and we expect final ice accumulations of 0.5-0.75 inches.

Consumers Energy already is reporting some power outages in the area.

In addition -
  • Battle Creek Transit will run bus, Tele-Transit, and BCGo services as usual tomorrow, and may be taking it slower first thing in the morning. If weather conditions require any service changes, we will share those updates.

  • Neighbors with Thursday garbage/recycling pickup should have their items at the curb as usual, by 6 a.m. If Republic determines they need to stop service due to the weather tomorrow, we will share that information on our messaging channels.

  • Essential emergency services, public works, and other staff will respond as needed.
Calhoun County Government and Court offices also are closed on Thursday, as well as area schools.

Please travel safely if you are out in the community tomorrow. Connect with us on social media and on the web at battlecreekmi.gov.
