BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City contractors from Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc. (SME) will perform soil borings near the crossing of the CN Railroad over both E. Michigan Avenue and Elm Street Tuesday, March 7, resulting in two temporary road closures.
The soil boring collections at the crossing of the CN Railroad over E. Michigan Avenue will take place along Michigan, between Union Street S. and Gilbert Street. The following road closure will be in place:
- Westbound E. Michigan Avenue will be CLOSED at the CN Railroad crossing, located between Union Street S. and Gilbert Street.
- The recommended detour for westbound Michigan traffic will be to take a left on Caine Street, a right on Cliff Street, a right on Elm Street, and then resume traveling west by taking a left on Michigan.
The crossing of the CN Railroad over Elm Street will have soil borings collected along Elm, between Mary Street and Bennett Street. The following road closure will be in place:
- Southbound Elm Street will be CLOSED at the CN Railroad crossing, located between Mary Street and Bennett Street.
- The recommended detour for southbound Elm traffic will be to take a left on E. Michigan Avenue, a right on Caine Street, a right on Cliff Street, and then return to Elm by taking a right on Elm.
The overall time frame for the soil boring collection work is 7 a.m.-6 p.m., with each site taking approximately four hours for collection.
These soil borings were originally scheduled for Feb. 16, however were delayed due to required changes to the project’s detour plans for traffic near the railroad crossings.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during all work on our city’s infrastructure.
