From the Michigan Department of Transportation today, March 13, 2023 -

MDOT will hold a public open house in one week to talk about this year's project to repave I-94 between Helmer Road and 17 1/2 Mile Road, and repair or rebuild multiple bridges in Battle Creek, Emmett Township, and Marshall Township.

This will include a complete rebuild/replacement of the Capital Avenue SW bridge over I-94. We expect that part of the project to start shortly after the July 4 holiday, and it will completely close the bridge for 75 days.

The open house will be from 4-6 p.m. next Monday, March 20, at the city's Department of Public Works, 150 S. Kendall St.

Project information summary from MDOT:

The three-year, $160 million investment includes repaving 10 miles of I-94 between Helmer Road and 17 1/2 Mile Road, rebuilding nine bridges, and repairing eight others. Repaving work is planned from west of Helmer Road to 6 1/2 Mile Road, and from M-96 (Michigan Avenue) to 17 1/2 Mile Road.

The I-94 bridges planned for rebuilding are at Capital Avenue, 6 1/2 Mile Road, M-294 (Beadle Lake Road), 9 Mile Road, and the Kalamazoo River. Bridges with planned repairs are at Riverside Drive, I-194, F Drive South, M-96 (Michigan Avenue), M-311 (11 Mile Road) and 17 Mile Road (Old US-27).
